We’re seeking an experienced Program Manager to join our Project Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) team. This role is pivotal in leading large-scale programs and projects across our organization, particularly as we undergo a transformation within our PMO/PPMO structure. The Program Manager will bring leadership and drive results, managing both projects and a team of project managers (PMs). This role is unique in that it combines hands-on program management with strategic oversight, offering a blend of project execution and direct leadership.  This role will be a hybrid work environment in Madison, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale programs, managing complex projects, budgets, and cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Partner with EDM/IT, Product, Business Agility, OL&D, and OCM teams to facilitate program goals.
  • Supervise and mentor PMs within the program, modeling leadership and driving desired behaviors.
  • Implement project management oversight and capabilities, supporting the PPMO transformation initiative.
  • Escalate issues as needed and maintain effective communication with stakeholders to ensure alignment and resolve challenges.
  • Monitor program performance, identifying areas for improvement in processes and tools.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field (equivalent, relevant experience may be considered).
  • 7+ years of experience in project, portfolio, and program management.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, ideally within healthcare or health insurance sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large programs and complex projects.
  • PMP, PgMP, or a similar project management certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Proficiency in MS Dynamics and JIRA.

Key Competencies

  • Program management and project leadership skills.
  • Ability to drive results and achieve program goals.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand organizational priorities.

A Day in the Life

The Program Manager will work both independently and collaboratively. In addition to daily program oversight, this role will lead a team of PMs, instilling best practices and guiding project execution. Interactions with internal teams like EDM/IT, Product, and Business Agility are common, and the role will serve as a mentor and role model for PMs. Success will be measured by the Program Manager’s ability to efficiently run projects and utilize tools effectively.

Unique Opportunity

This position offers the rare chance to lead within a PMO/PPMO transformation initiative, impacting people, processes, and tools. With our team in a period of transition, this role is ideal for a forward-thinking, strategic program manager who thrives in dynamic environments.

Training and Success Measures

Training will be on-the-job, supported by a buddy system with current PMs. Success will be gauged by the new hire’s ability to understand and leverage available tools, and to manage projects effectively and efficiently.
