Carex is partnering with a Consumer Products industry partner to find a skilled and experienced Sr. Manufacturing Project Engineer to join their team. This role will be pivotal in planning, coordinating, and implementing equipment solutions that support new product introductions, optimize manufacturing footprints, and advance automation and sustaining engineering initiatives across both US and Mexico-based facilities.

What You’ll Do

Automation & Plant Support
  • Identify operational needs and develop equipment design and commissioning strategies to support new product launches and process automation.
  • Select, develop, and manage equipment vendors and automation resources to reduce manual labor in key product lines.
  • Plan, specify, procure, and implement capital equipment projects, including commissioning, training, and establishing maintenance and spare parts programs.
  • Integrate quality-at-the-source methods including error proofing techniques such as poka yoke into all stages of equipment implementation.
  • Design and deploy TPM and OEE tracking systems to monitor and improve year-over-year equipment performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional operations teams on initiatives that improve safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Lead Kaizen and problem-solving activities focusing on equipment-related challenges.
  • Implement cost-saving measures aligned with strategic financial targets.
  • Establish best practices and equipment standards across the network for consistency and operational excellence.
Manufacturing Footprint
  • Develop equipment specifications and capabilities to support strategic insourcing efforts.
  • Lead refurbishment, relocation, and commissioning of process equipment across US and MX sites.
  • Work with supply chain stakeholders to develop and execute detailed project plans aligned with business priorities.
  • Utilize project management tools to track timelines, milestones, deliverables, and report on progress and risks to leadership.
  • Prepare and deliver engineering-related documentation and presentations to internal stakeholders.
Scope & Responsibility
  • Align project plans with capital budget processes and strategic goals.
  • Define resources and prioritize tasks for effective process equipment delivery.
  • Mentor and develop engineering team members through rotational assignments and skill-building plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across quality, manufacturing, product, and supplier teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a key point of contact across all organizational levels and escalate significant issues to senior management as needed.
     
What You’ll Bring
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with a strong background in manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in specifying and deploying process equipment and automation systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading and mentoring technical personnel.
  • Hands-on expertise in manufacturing process improvement, including TPM, OEE, and error-proofing.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Advanced engineering competencies in equipment design, automation, and lean process development.
  • Strong project management capabilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High-level analytical, conceptual, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced settings.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools and platforms including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and controls systems (PLC, PAC, HMI).
  • Knowledgeable in machine safety, LOTO, and compliance with guarding standards.
  • Effective communicator, comfortable presenting to senior leadership.
  • Skilled in applying process methodologies and driving innovation in workflow optimization.
  • Experience leading DFM and 3P initiatives to enhance process and product integration.
  • Utilizes tools such as PFMEA, ergonomic analysis, and job hazard assessments to close processing gaps.
  • Champions knowledge-sharing platforms and tracks performance against goals consistently.
