Carex is partnering with a Madison based non-profit partner to find an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee accounting functions, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide financial insights to support business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical and technology skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
This role is flexible, hybrid based in Madison, WI.
What You'll Do
- Manage all aspects of accounting functions to ensure effective internal controls and asset management.
- Develop and maintain financial record-keeping and reporting systems to comply with statutory requirements.
- Prepare financial reports and present updates to organization leadership, the Board of Directors, and the Finance & Audit Committee.
- Collaborate with the President & CEO to prepare and manage annual operating budgets and maintain ongoing forecasts.
- Work with an external CPA firm to complete federal, state, and local tax returns and annual audits.
- Coordinate with internal teams to generate invoices and record receipts for partner dues, hotel room block charges, sponsorships, grants, and other initiatives.
- Audit and reconcile all expenses according to financial policy, organizational chart of accounts, and budget guidelines.
- Process biweekly payroll and related deductions using a third-party platform.
- Develop and implement financial procedures to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Manage relationships with banking partners and represent the organization to relevant external stakeholders.
- Assist with other accounting and operational duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with 6-8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and budgeting.
- Experience managing taxes, capital expenditures, and contracts.
- Familiarity with financial requirements of nonprofit organizations is preferred.
- Expertise in accounting software, including QuickBooks and MS Excel, with the ability to learn new technologies.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality in handling financial data.
- Effective communication skills to tailor messaging to different audiences.
- Ability to navigate complex accounting issues and apply internal processes to new situations.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on optimizing processes for efficiency.
